Important Safety Information!

CG-LOCK™ IS NOT A SAFETY DEVICE. Do not use the CG-Lock without first reading and understanding the safety information provided with the product. Do not use the CG-Lock if you do not understand any part of the full Safety Instructions or any part of the “Installation” or “How to Use” Instructions.

General Safety Information

The CG-Lock is intended expressly for those uses specifically stated; do not use for any other purpose.

The CG-Lock is not a replacement or substitute for the use of appropriate seat belts and/or other safety equipment.

The CG-Lock does not fit all vehicles. If the CG-Lock does not fit your vehicle, return the CG-Lock with a completed Return Form (see the “Return Policy”). You will receive a full refund for the CG-Lock and shipping.

Adjustments to the CG-Lock should be performed with the vehicle safely parked.

The CG-Lock is equipped with an “on/off” function (an “enable/disable” feature). Switching between these settings should only be done with the vehicle safely parked (stationary).

DO NOT DRIVE with the CG-Lock slide in the “on” (“engaged”) position without first removing the slack (looseness or excess webbing) from the lap belt by pulling up on the shoulder harness until the lap belt is snug.

Driving with any slack (looseness) in the seat belt system can be hazardous. If the lap belt portion of the seat belt is loosened using the release lever or becomes loose, any slack in the lap belt must be removed by pulling up on the shoulder harness before driving.

If you do not want any tightness on the lap belt portion of the seat belt, remove the CG-Lock slide (disable the CG-Lock) as explained in the “HOW TO USE” instructions.

Do not drive with a loose lap belt unless the CG-Lock slide has been removed. The CG-Lock is designed ONLY for use with specific factory-installed (OEM) standard three-point lap/shoulder harnesses. The “Installation Instructions” provided on this website contain full details.

Appropriate use of the CG-Lock is at the discretion of the user; do not use if there is the slightest question of appropriateness of application, fit, or safety. If you have questions or concerns, return the CG-Lock for a refund of the purchase price as described in the Money Back Guarantee.

The user is responsible for installing, inspecting, and maintaining the CG-Lock correctly and according to the supplied directions.

Make all seat adjustments before tightening the lap belt with the CG-Lock. For example, do not tighten the CG-Lock and then move your seat forward or backward. Move the seat first, then tighten the lap belt.

The CG-Lock is equipped with an “on/off” function (an “enable/disable” feature). Remove the slide after each use and store safely. Doing so will prevent use of the CG-Lock by someone unfamiliar with its operation. It is your responsibility to prevent an untrained person using an activated (enabled) CG-Lock in your vehicle.

Prior to each use, check the security of the CG-Lock installation and examine the seat belt for signs of wear or other concerns. In the event that a loose fit or wear is seen or suspected, remove the CG-Lock until the seat belt or CG-Lock is replaced.

In some vehicles, the CG-Lock may mar, abrade, or scratch the trim on the B-pillar. If you see the beginnings of any form of unacceptable effect, either discontinue use of the CG-Lock (return under the money back guarantee) or pad or protect the trim area using readily available padding materials, cloth tape, or other suitable method.

All driving is inherently dangerous and is performed under a wide range of conditions and/or driver skills, all of which are uncontrollable by CG-Lock Canada, Inc. CG-Lock Canada, Inc. accepts no responsibility for the consequences of vehicle use or driver actions whether or not the CG-Lock is used.

The CG-Lock purchaser assumes responsibility and liability for any and all uses and all users, including all restrictions, conditions, and disclaimers provided with the device.

In the event a CG-Lock is in use in a vehicle at the time of an accident or other impact, discontinue use of the CG-Lock at once and remove it at first opportunity. The CG-Lock should be returned to CG-Lock Canada, Inc. for a free replacement. Only a shipping and handling fee will be charged.

In any case, CG-Lock Canada, Inc. shall not be liable for more than the replacement cost of the CG-Lock. Manufacturer’s and seller’s liability is limited solely to replacement or refund, and in no case is the manufacturer or seller liable for incidental or coincidental damages.

Performance Driving Uses

The CG-Lock is NOT A SAFETY DEVICE; it does not increase safety and does not decrease risk of accident or harm.

Performance applications of the CG-Lock are not intended for street use. Suggested uses include closed-course, sanctioned driver training under the direction and control of appropriate instructors, such as autocrossing during an SCCA or other officially sanctioned event. The CG-Lock is intended for use by trained or highly experienced drivers only (for example, graduates of performance driving schools or advanced driver training, trucker’s school, and the like).

A CG-Lock does not change the laws of physics. The effects of speed, conditions of the vehicle and track, braking distance, lateral g loading and traction, acceptable angles of climb and descent, and/or other such driving attributes are unchanged by the presence of a CG-Lock, and appropriate cautions must be taken irrespective of the use of a CG-Lock.

Therapeutic Uses

A physician should be consulted before using the CG-Lock as a treatment or prophylactic for any type of medical condition, including but not limited to back pain, muscle spasm, fatigue, and the like. The CG-Lock is specifically contraindicated for people with sacroiliac joint dysfunction, artificial hips, and any other medical or physical condition incompatible with the CG-Lock unless authorized by a physician.

Comfort (long haul driving) Uses

The increased comfort afforded by the CG-Lock may increase a tendency towards sleepiness, over-relaxation, inattention, or other conditions not conducive to the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Care should be taken at all times to prevent these and other potentially hazardous conditions from occurring.

Installation

Read and follow these instructions carefully

This version of the CG-Lock does NOT fit all cars.

Do not use unless you are certain this version of the CG-Lock can be installed exactly according to the following instructions.

You must have a “single pass” tongue on you car’s seat belt. If you cannot install the CG-Lock exactly as described below, return it for a full refund (see Return Policy on this website).

1  Determine if your seat belt uses a “single pass” or “multiple pass” tongue.

Single Pass Tongue                        Multiple Pass Tongue

 ( acceptable )                                 ( NOT acceptable )

If your vehicle has a multiple pass tongue, return the CG-Lock for a full refund.

3 Insert the two LONG cap screws through the holes in the Main Body and engage just a few threads of the Lower Clamp Plate as shown above. Note that the grooved side of the lower clamp plate faces up. Use the supplied Allen wrench.

4  Sit in the seat on which you are going to install the CG-Lock. Buckle the seat belt. Make sure the belt webbing is not twisted.

5  Place the CG-Lock over the seat belt tongue. Center the clamp  behind - NOT OVER - the slot through which the belt webbing passes. Tighten the cap screws with the supplied Allen wrench. DO NOT overtighten.

IF THE TIPS OF THE SCREWS PROTRUDE (STICK OUT) through the bottom of the clamp plate, remove the LONG screws and repeat Steps 3, 4, and 5 with the SHORT screws.

Confirm that the CG-Lock is firmly attached to the tongue by trying to pull the CG-Lock off the tongue. The CG-Lock should remain attached to the tongue even with up to about 30 pounds of force applied. Should the CG-Lock ever become unattached, safely stop the car and reattach it.

6 Note that the Slide has channels underneath and that the Main Body has flanges.

Lay the shoulder belt webbing over the knurled roller in the main body as shown. Hold the slide so that the finger grip is on top and pointing towards the seat belt tongue. Hold the slide over the seat belt webbing and engage the channels of the slide over the flanges on the main body. Push the Slide onto the Main Body. The red arrows printed on the CG-Lock Slide point to the proper direction for moving the Slide to the “On” and “Off” positions. You may need to rotate the lever down slightly to push the slide over the roller.

IMPORTANT:  push the slide onto the main body evenly if you press one side on harder than another, or twist the slide, the slide may jam. You then have to remove the slide and restart with even pressure. Note also that the first few times you engage the slide, it may feel stiff and hard to push. This is normal and will fade over time. You may need to use a bit of force to fully engage the slide.

How to Use

Read and understand the safety information before using the CG-Lock. Never adjust the CG-Lock in a moving vehicle.

Familiarize yourself with all the CG-Lock functions before using it.

Move the Slide to the fully forward position to turn the CG-Lock “on” (enable”). You may need to rotate the lever down to move the Slide forward over the knurled roller.

The slide moves backward away from the tongue to slide it off the flanges of the Main Body to disable (turn off) the lock function.

The thumb lever is spring loaded. You can momentarily release the locking feature by moving the lever down to allow the lap belt to loosen and to move the Slide forwards and backward.

To use the CG-Lock, move the slide all the way forward toward the seat belt tongue until the forward detent engages. You may need to rotate the thumb lever down slightly to move the slide to the detent over the roller. Remember, push the slide evenly, and it may require some pressure the first few times.

Buckle the seat belt as usual. If the belt is too short to reach the buckle, simply rotate the thumb lever down while buckling. Rotating the lever down lets the belt run freely through the tongue.

The next step depends on how you want to use the CG-Lock.

For performance driving or off roading:

With the CG-Lock properly attached to the tongue as described above, and with the tongue locked into the buckle as usual, push your hips all the way back against the seat back. Push hard. Adjust the seat if necessary to maintain proper spacing from the steering wheel, pedals, and other controls. Sit up straight. Adjust the lap belt low on your waist (as close to your legs as possible).

Place a finger of one hand on the CG-Lock Slide to manually confirm it is in the full forward (“engaged”; “on” position) and to hold it in place as you grasp the shoulder belt just above the CG-Lock and pull away from the CG-Lock parallel to the lap belt to tighten. Pull the shoulder belt hard as you push your hips back into the seat. The harder you pull, the tighter your lap belt will be. The lap belt will stay tight until you release it.

If the lap belt becomes too tight, PULL OVER AND PARK SAFELY, then simply rotate the thumb lever down momentarily while lifting the hip closest to the CG-Lock, and the belt will loosen. REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN THE LAP BELT AGAIN (REMOVE THE SLACK) OR TO REMOVE THE SLIDE BEFORE STARTING TO DRIVE AGAIN.

To exit the vehicle, simply release the seat belt tongue in the usual way and assist the seat belt retractor in rewinding the belt. The weight of the CG-Lock may impede the seat belt retractor. Failure to rewind the belt fully could result in the CG-Lock and tongue being caught in the vehicle door when it is closed.

NOTE: Always remove the slide from the enable (On) detent position if there is the slightest chance that someone else will be using the seat belt with a CG-Lock installed. With the Slide removed, the seat belt behaves as if the CG-Lock were not attached. Anyone who has not read and understood the Use Instructions and Safety Information should not use an enabled (functional) CG-Lock. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PREVENT SOMEONE FROM USING THE CG-Lock in your vehicle.

If you will be driving/riding for an hour or more:

Follow the instructions provided above, except do not pull the shoulder belt as tightly - just snug enough that you will not slide forward in the seat. This holds your back gently against the lumbar support of the seat and reduces the potential for back muscle fatigue.

If the lap belt becomes too tight (or if you need to reach into a back pocket for toll money), PULL OVER AND PARK SAFELY, then simply rotate the thumb lever down momentarily while lifting the hip closest to the CG-Lock, and the belt will loosen. REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN THE LAP BELT AGAIN (REMOVE THE SLACK) OR TO REMOVE THE SLIDE BEFORE STARTING TO DRIVE AGAIN.

Routine Inspection:

One week after initial installation, retighten the cap screws.

Prior to each use, the user is responsible for checking the security of the CG-Lock installation and examining the seat belt for signs of wear or other concerns. In the event that a loose fit or wear is seen or suspected, discontinue use of the CG-Lock until the problem is corrected.

In the event that a CG-Lock is in use in a vehicle at the time of an accident or impact, discontinue use of the CG-Lock at once. The CG-Lock should be returned to CG-Lock Canada, Inc. for a free replacement (see “Guarantee” and “Return Policy” on this website).
